Methodology

     Pre-data collection
    - Sampling Method: Stratified Proportional Sampling.
As females and males have distinctively different physiques, we decided to investigate the  lengths of the forearms and feet of both female and male populations. Sample size is representative of the occupational therapy (OT) student population noting that the male cohort is contrastingly small in proportion. Data was collected from 40 persons (4 males and 36 females).

                    Ratio     9       :      1

    - Targeted number of subjects: 40 (4 males and 36 females)
    - Informed OT Year 1 and Year 2 students about out project to gather subjects
    - Fixed a day, time and venue where the subjects will gather for the collection of data
    - Prepared forms to record readings of data collection

Data collection

Time: 1100hrs - 1330hrs
Date: 6 July 2011
Location: K306, School of Health Sciences

- 4 stations were set up, with a tester at each station
- Station 1: test the lengths of the right and left forearms (Reading 1)
- Station 2: test the lengths of the right and left forearms (Reading 2)

For stations 1 and 2, subjects were seated on a chair with elbows flexed at 45 degrees and supported by a table. Readingswere taken by marking dots on both the elbow crease and distal wrist crease, and then measuring the length of the forearm using a standardized measuring tape. Watches and bracelets were removed. Hand dominance was found out.
- Station 3: test the lengths of the right and left feet (Reading 1)
- Station 4: test the lengths of the right and left feet (Reading 2)

For stations 3 and 4, subjects were seated on a chair with foot placed on top of a standardized measuring tape that was secured on the floor. Readings were taken by supporting the calcaneus with a shoe box and a ruler to mark the tip of the longest toe (1st/2nd/3rd phalanx), and then measuring the length of the foot. Socks and shoes were removed.
-         The subjects approached the stations in the order, Station 1, 2, 3, 4, to have their readings taken

Post Data Collection

-    Upon collection of data, the mean of Readings 1 and 2 of the forearms and feet were calculated and tabulated respectively
